Journaling mode

Journaling mode” allows new Trustifi users to test out Trustifi’s Inbound Shield protection on their environment, without making any significant changes to their mail flow and routing.

By setting up “Journaling mode“, Trustifi will receive a copy of each inbound email (similar to a journal/archive service) to be scanned while the original email is delivered directly to the recipient’s mailbox as it would normally.

Trustifi is then able to scan these emails and determine if any threat can be found in the email’s headers, links, content, or attachments.
A record of these scanned emails will be found in the “Quarantined emails” page of the Trustifi web portal, even though these emails will not actually be quarantined.

How to set up Journaling Mode

To start, please follow the steps of this guide up to and including step 15 (“Setting the custom header“).
You will notice that in steps 5-7 you will be creating a host which will currently not be used in journaling mode, however creating it now will make it easier when switching to full protection later on.

After you’ve completed steps 1-15 in the guide above, please follow these steps:

Adding more recipients

In the route settings, scroll down to a section titled “Also deliver to” and select “Add more recipients“.
Then, click on the “Add” link in the “Recipients” section.

Selecting “Advanced”

A pop-up window will open, and by default it will be set to “Basic“. Switch this setting to “Advanced“.

Adding the recipient

The pop-up will change. Follow the steps below:

  • Under “Envelope recipient” select “Change envelope recipient
  • Select “Replace recipient
  • In the input field, add a recipient in the following format: your company name (without spaces, all lowercase) + @journal.trustifi.com
For example – if my company name is “Trustifi Testing”, I will add the following: trustifitesting@journal.trustifi.com
  • Click on “Save”

Note: The actual original recipient of the email will not be replaced and the original mail flow will not be affected. Despite how Google describes these settings, Trustifi will only receive a copy of each inbound email.

Verifying the recipient

Make sure the recipient was added and saved correctly.

You can now click “SAVE” and enable this routing rule.
