Trustifi and Rain Networks Case Study

Compelling Email Encryption That Does More, While Leveraging Breakthrough Strategies

trustifi.com

The Details:

Client: Rain Networks, a specialized cyber security distributor serving partners in the channel Product: Trustifi’s SaaS-based email encryption Industry Segment: Small business verticals including healthcare, legal, and financial services

The Challenge:

Nathan Ware, President of Rain Networks, runs a value-added distribution company focusing on security solutions for channel partners in a range of vertical markets. His clients work primarily with small business end-users, many who have fewer than 50 employees. This includes legal firms, CPAs, financial services, and healthcare groups. Ware says his providers wanted a SaaS (software as a service) encryption tool for end users that protects email data, guards against threats and malware, integrates seamlessly into existing email and business platforms, and is available at a reasonable price point for his SMB base of MSPs and solution providers. “Our partners typically work with clientele who are bound by government security compliance regulations,” he said. “For example, one of our end-customers is an independent mortgage company that sends financial information across the internet on a daily basis. They need to encrypt and protect their clients’ sensitive data. It’s not a choice or a nicety—it’s mandated. Yet they don’t have the budget for an enterprise level security solution.” Ware noted that many businesses are looking to augment their in-house IT resources so they can focus on their core competencies. These companies depend on their MSPs for effective and easy-to-manage software to ensure client satisfaction and protect both sensitive client information and intellectual property. Another challenge in selecting an email security solution:  the end user will only adopt a solution if it is easy-to-deploy and easy-to-use, both in sending and receiving secure messages.

Use Cases:

Regional CPA Office: Rain Networks recently helped a reseller with a deployment at an accounting firm. The end user must constantly convey personal identifying material and financial information, including pay stubs, bank statements, 1099 forms, and investment details. Without encryption, this identifying data would travel unprotected across the public internet. The company desperately needed an easy way to transmit this intellectual property securely between their office and their clients. Rain Network’s MSP customer was able to present Trustifi’s compelling solution for just $70 a year. The CPA firm was able to implement simple, one-click encryption at a reasonable price point, securing their clientele’s sensitive data. Local Manufacturing Company: A plastics manufacturing company routinely sends and receives proprietary data about their patented designs, which are the lifeblood of its business. Many of the designs for these parts are unique, patented intellectual property. Without data encryption, the company risked having this intellectual property fall into public hands, which would compromise the value of the manufacturer’s clientele and their proprietary products. Rain Networks provided the channel reseller with Trustifi, which integrated seamlessly with the manufacturing company’s Office 365 email server. This one-click solution was deployed with no friction, establishing one-click encryption security right within its existing email system. The manufacturing company was therefore able to conduct secure transmissions of this intellectual property, safeguarding the livelihood of its clientele. Rain Networks has seen the demand for security solutions grow exponentially. Demand has been especially pronounced the increase in work-from-home environments, as businesses seek protection against the uptick in security threats and breaches that have accompanied this transition. Ware was looking for a software based cyber security solution that could address the surge in security needs due to increased telecommuting, while accommodating the unique needs of these small business clients.

The Solution:  Trustifi SaaS Email Security Platform

Trustifi’s Inbound Shield, Data Loss Prevention, and Email Encryption solutions deliver advanced protection against phishing, malware, viruses, and other malicious activity. They provide a comprehensive range of security features and tools for advanced threat protection, data loss prevention, and enterprise email encryption. The company’s key objective is to keep clients’ data, their reputations, and brands safe from all threats related to email transmissions, both incoming and outgoing. In addition, the solutions integrate seamlessly with major email platforms, including Outlook and Gmail, with an intuitiveness and ease-of-use for the average user that fosters greater adoption with an extremely low learning curve. The solutions apply complex algorithms, scans, and filters powered by Al-based and optical character recognition to pinpoint and “quarantine” questionable material, identify and block high-risk IP addresses, and assign danger levels to help providers detect threats. It also features one-click compliance for regulations such as HIPAA, GDPR, and CCPA. The solutions address a wide scope of end-customers, ranging on up to large enterprises. Trustifi’s offerings are enterprise-grade cyber security solutions which have been adopted by a long list of enterprise customers across various verticals. Trustifi’s solutions also provide alerts for activity on the client’s email network that varies from regular usage patterns, such as spikes or atypical sender behavior that might indicate a breach. For example, if a user typically sends 20 emails a day, but one day sends 200 emails instead, the alert warns of potential spam being generated from that address. Users can assess the risk of a message right from Outlook, to review whether it exhibits malicious traits. “We’ve worked with many providers in the cyber security space. Some of them offer encryption but not threat protection. Others are strong in antivirus and threat protection but can’t handle encryption,” began Rain Networks’ Ware. “Trustifi impressed us because it delivers all of the above, and does so expertly. Its best-in-class email encryption far outpaces competitors, in addition to offering robust, AI-powered filters, anti-phishing and malware protection, alarms, and threat detection, protecting both outbound and inbound data. This is a rare combination, which helps give us a competitive edge in this very demanding security market.”

The Breakthrough Approach:

In evaluating email encryption solutions, Rain Networks recognized that Trustifi’s relay-based cyber security was a breakthrough approach—a disruptive enough strategy to cause MSPs to rethink how they handle email encryption all together.  Trustifi’s solution encrypts messages before they enter the recipient’s gateway and houses them on a proprietary cloud platform, which allows sent messages to be accessed and recalled or changed as needed from the vendor’s platform. The relay-based approach of Trustifi’s new architecture delivers specific advantages over “SEG” gateway-based cyber security. “This is the true differentiator of the Trustifi solution,” noted Ware. “Their cloud-based model provides a much wider range of capabilities than competing solutions. You have a multitude of one-click options in sending an email via Trustifi’s solution, all easily accessible right in the user’s Outlook or Gmail system.” This includes one-click encryption that automatically ensures that emails comply with regulations such as HIPAA, CCPA, GDPR, PCI and more. Users can recall or alter sent message, replace or remove attachments, or reword text for any period of time a sender designates—even after emails have been read. Senders may replace or remove recipients after-the-fact, without alerting the other addressees. And when the sender has a greater ability to manipulate messages they have already transmitted, it gives them the opportunity to correct or redact potentially debilitating missteps.

The Results:

Rain Networks adopted Trustifi as its featured email encryption and cyber security solution, which has served its small business clientele tremendously, delivering versatile, robust, enterprise-grade cyber security solutions at competitive prices that even independent regional businesses can accommodate. The solution has provided these small businesses with extraordinary capabilities when it comes to the control and protection of their email data. “Email access presents a primary data threat to any organization. Even the most independent shop needs to be able to exert control over their clients’ precious data,” said Ware. “Trustifi offers an extraordinary range of cyber security capabilities. For instance, they’re the only cloud-based solution with multiple authentication options,” he confirms. “Compared to competing products, Trustifi is a comprehensive and simplified solution for users. And it integrates easily with Microsoft 365 for Business, which is essential, since Outlook is the popular gold standard platform,” Ware continued. “Due to its ability to accomplish so many cyber security tasks so well, Trustifi has clearly presented itself as the best option out there.”
