This short document is intended for admins who are deploying the Trustifi outbound email relay for Google Workspace in a limited scope deployment.
This kind of deployment is usually performed for Proof of Concept (PoC) purposes before a full roll-out, or for other cases when only part of outbound email traffic should be routed through Trustifi.
Google Workspace allows for a couple of different methods to configure a limited scope deployment. Follow the relevant instructions below according to your preferred deployment type.
Note: the additional configuration below should only be performed after finishing the steps in the main deployment configuration guide.
Editing the Trustifi routing rule
In the Google admin portal, navigate to “Settings for Gmail” > “Routing“, find the Trustifi routing rule, and click on “Edit“.
Showing additional options
In the rule edit pop-up window, scroll all the way down and click on “Show options“.
Selecting specific envelope sender option
Scroll down again and find the “Envelope filter” section. There, check the box for “Only affect specific envelope senders“.
When this box is selected, it will display additional options for you to select which user(s) should be using this routing rule. Select the option most relevant for you.
Single email address
This will be the default option, and will work only for a specific user. To apply to this specific user, simply enter their email address in the input field.
Group membership
If you want to use this routing based on membership to one or more groups, click on the drop-down menu and select “Group membership“. Click “Select groups” to open a list of groups to select (you can select one or more).
This is the most popular option for a PoC, since you can create your custom Google group of PoC participants and add your select users to it.
Pattern match
To use this routing based on a custom setting, you can select “Pattern match” from the drop-down menu.
In the input field, you can add your own custom regex (which will automatically be validated by Google).
In the example below, the routing will be used based on membership to a specific domain.
Saving the rule changes
Once done, don’t forget to click on “SAVE” at the bottom-right corner of the window to save your changes.
